Hello Year 5!!

We hope you are keeping safe and well. We hope that the home learning packs are coming into good use and that you are managing to get onto the Curriculum Visions website to supplement your learning.

Here are a few more ideas that you can try:

English- So far this year we have covered lots of different genres of writing and hopefully you remember some of the key features of them (persuasive/complaint writing, narrative writing, diary entries, character descriptions, setting descriptions, newspaper reports, biographical writing etc),why not have a go at writing your own piece?

It can be a letter of complaint over something you are not happy about; a newspaper report of a current issue; a biography of your favourite author/icon; a diary of your day trying to practise social distancing or anything that you feel passionate about. Remember to plan draft and edit as we would do in class and think about up levelling vocabulary for the tier 2 and tier 3 words as well as the varied punctuation and sentence structures. Remember detail, detail and more detail!

Make sure you are also keeping up with your daily reading even if it is for 10 to 15 minutes a day.

Maths- We have covered all the different written methods for addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. Make sure you are practising these often. The website https://myminimaths.co.uk/ is great for helping you with this. Corbett Maths is also a great website for you to practise some reasoning style questions https://corbettmathsprimary.com/5-a-day/. Both of the above websites are also good as they are not over bearing and allow you to do a few questions at a time.

If you have a problems or queries please don’t hesitate to ask. Also try and get your parents to log onto to twitter to see what everyone else at Whitehall is getting up to and try and share with us what you are doing too. We all need to encourage each other to the best we can during this difficult time.

Again, we hope you keep safe and healthy and hopefully we will hear from you soon.

Mrs Adam, Mrs Green, Mr Jennings and Mrs Foster.
